The Path to College Affordability

College financial aid is often the last variable that surfaces after students apply to colleges. The elite colleges from NYU to Northeastern to UVA cost more than $80,000 for one year. These costs can affect the outcome of a student’s life and the future well-being of a family’s fiscal health.

I come across parents who are in “sticker shock” in the spring of their student’s senior year of high school, when they realize that the four-year cost will be over $320,000! While I’m able to help them, these incidents are all too common.

As a result, I committed to writing this knowledge base that families can access all in one place. For example, students, parents, IECs can compute how families, separated or divorced parents are assessed under the Federal and Institutional Methodologies.

The book provides forms and formulas along with tips for avoiding paying too much for college.

This “How To” process enables IECs, students and parents to take charge of the college selection process by using my common theme: the Affordable Family Contribution or AFC.

You can now get the best outcome. You will now have the means to CONTROL your college costs!

Reviews

In this book, Claire Law introduces the concept of an Affordable Family Contribution, or AFC. The AFC is a measure of how much the family feels it can afford to pay for college. If a college’s net price is higher than the AFC, she encourages the family to choose a less expensive college.
